Research

During my research I want to optimise the heterologous production and purification, and subsequently investigate the characteristics of acetyl-CoA synthase (AcsB) from Dehalococcoides mccartyi strain CBDB1 within the CoMet project. This enzyme cleaves acetyl-CoA and therefore functions as a potential methyl group donor (MTase I). Since acetyl-CoA is a central intermediate in the metabolism of all organisms or can be autotrophically derived from CO₂, this project eventually offers a biological, sustainable and eco-friendly methylation method that avoids the need for conventional chemical routes.
