Research
My PhD project focuses on the physiology and molecular biology of obligately autotrophic acetogens. Acetogens fix CO₂ through the Wood-Ljungdahl pathway and conserve energy at the thermodynamic limit of life, which makes them candidate biocatalysts for converting CO₂ and syngas into chemicals. Progress with these organisms is limited by how little is known about their physiology and by the absence of genetic tools for most strains. My work combines physiological characterisation with the development of molecular methods. The aim is to make this group more accessible for environmental biotechnology.
